The 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) approach provides a golden solution and an opportunity to tackle the issue of managing waste, which has become an international concern. Inefficient waste management practices have a very serious consequence over the health and environment. The current estimate of global Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) generation is around 1.3 billion tones per year and which is expected to increase upto 2.2 billion tones by 2025. The concept of 3R has been an integral part of Indian Culture for centuries. The launch of Swachh Bharat Mission (Clean India Mission) in 2014 by Government of India with its objective of managing MSW provides synergy towards “Mission Zero Waste”. The management of Waste in the country has increasingly become a challenge due to India’s rapid urbanization and increasing population. The production of Municipal Solid Waste annually currently is 54.75 million tonnes in urban India.
The governments have been encouraging Industries and other stakeholders to scientifically manage its waste in process of mitigating the ill impact on environment and society at large. Waste must be considered as a resource; the same may be used to produce a new product or may be reutilized by someone in need. Various stakeholders and civil society organizations have been working for the same. ROOT LOGIX with its experts has been working on innovative framework to sustainably manage waste and use it as a new resource for achieving the Mission Zero Waste as set by the government.
